Child Care Nurse Educator

The Child Care Nurse Educator provides health and safety education to child care providers in Pitkin County. Courses include Medication Administration and Universal Precautions and consultations also provided to Child Care Nurse Consultants. Staff members are provided with exclusion from school guidelines regarding childhood diseases.

Health Care Program for Children with Special Needs (HCP)
Colorado Responds to Children with Special Needs (CRCSN)

CRCSN informs local public health nursing services of children born in their county who have special needs, which require follow-up and subsequent referrals to partner agencies.

HCP offers assistance for families with special needs to children (0-21 years) in order to find health care and other resources. Examples include: heart conditions, downs syndrome, attention deficit disorders (ADD) and developmental delays.

Family Visitor Program Referrals (FVP)

A program that will help parents and newborn children begin a healthy life. Taking good care of your-self, preparing for childbirth, and then caring for a new baby can be a challenge. Family Visitor supports women through pregnancy and the first few years of parenting, depending which FVP fits your family.

Families eligible for FVP receive:
  • Home visits during your pregnancy and after the birth of your baby
  • Answers to questions about pregnancy, labor, and delivery
  • Information about baby and early childcare
  • Support for family needs and link to community resources

Immunization Clinics

The purpose of the Vaccine for Children (VFC) Program is to protect children from preventable communicable diseases. All children in Pitkin County and the Roaring Fork Valley are eligible to receive VFC immunizations

A child's parent or legal guardian is required to accompany the child to sign the consent form. When bringing your child in for immunizations, please bring their immunization record in order to assess completeness of immunization schedule. Children's immunizations are forwarded to schools and entered into the State Registry-Colorado Immunization Information Systems.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

WIC's purpose is to provide nutrition education and food for infants/children and pregnant/breastfeeding women.

Eligibility requirements include:
  • Women who are pregnant, six months post-partum, or breastfeeding
  • Infants and children, up to 5 years of age, who are within income guidelines and have at least one nutritional risk factor.
